Tolerances of Being Alone

22 year old me, having a roommate who worked nights and therefore having many nights alone in my apartment: Reads an Agatha Christie murder mystery before bed, watches a darker toned show, doesn’t even think twice about taking a shower, turns off all the lights, and just double checks the door is locked at night.

28 year old me, not having had a night alone in at least 2 years and who suddenly finds herself solo while her husband is gone for the night: Pauses her reading of a murder mystery to read a much lighter YA drama, refuses to watch even a slightly intense clip on Youtube, makes plans to shower only during the daytime, heavily debates with herself whether she should leave the hall light on so she doesn’t wake up in the dark – only to tell herself she’s a grown up woman who’s done this before and she can turn the dang light off, double checks the door is locked at night.

Apparently some habits take some practice to keep. But my husband is back so time to drive back into my murder mysteries.
